Homebrewing Here I Come!!!

Ok, so today I went by my local homebrew store, Brewstock, and purchased some homebrew equipment and ingredients. This will be my first attempt at homebrewing other than the time my dad and I tried using a Mr. Beer kit. That beer turned out to be pretty crappy so I'm not sure to even count that as a homebrewing experience.

I hope to start brewing in the next couple days maybe even making a little brewing/drinking session out of it with a couple of friends. I'll be documenting my progress for this site the whole way regardless of the outcome! I want to thank Aaron Hyde over at Brewstock for walking me through my first homebrew buying experience. He even went so far as to write down a recipe for me to use and open an hour early to take care of me! I also picked up Charlie Papazian's Complete Joy of Homebrewing Third Edition to help me out along the way! Wish me luck!!!

Cheers!

Beer Review: Duvel

Ok, so I've been away for a bit. Truth is I was giving my liver a minute to heal after the awesome beer tasting we had at Steins Deli. What an incredible event!! For those who are local and missed out we will have more so stay tuned.

I was thinking it had been a long time since I had a Duvel and all I truly remember about it was that it was a great beer. I decided to revisit and review it. On to the review!

Brewery: Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat NV

Beer: Duvel

Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale

ABV: 8.50%

Recommended Glassware: Snifter, Tulip or Oversized Wine Glass

Serving Type: Snifter

Appearance: This beer poured a golden straw color with a very foamy looking white head. Lacing was present throughout.

Smell: Had a nice yeast funk smell with hints of lemon and candied sugar.

Taste: Had a nice citrus flavor with a tart/sour green apple flavor. A nice hint of hops as well is evident in the finish as is the 8.5% alcohol.

Mouthfeel: A nice and light body with medium high carbonation.

Overall: WOW. This is a damn good beer. Very drinkable

Score: Photobucket 4.5 out of 5 Buddhas
