The Beer Buddha is a Fat Ass

It's true. I'm fat. And I hate it. I haven't always been this way. I used to be quite active and fairly good looking. Okay so I was a sexy beast it's true. I'm trying to be modest.

Above:  Me skinny. And drunk.

I was talking to my wife(who has been blessed with amazing genes and is skinny) last night about once again attempting to lose weight and she suggested using my blog as support. Now I know this isn't a weight loss blog but I think she may be onto something here.

I think beer gets an unfair reputation as the culprit for weight gain hence the beer belly. I can pretty much promise you my beer belly is years of hard work and beer had very little to do with it. Crappy food choices are guilty for my awesome figure.

I have decided to buckle down and really lose some weight and you all are my witnesses. I hope you all are okay with this. I need the support. Don't worry this will incorporate beer. At the end of every week(Sunday) I will drink a very nice beer with a meal I will be cooking. I will do my best to incorporate a recipe if it's worthy. Sundays will be my weight check in with all of you along with a brief description of how I am doing.

I'm tired ya'll. I'm tired of being overweight and feeling the way I feel. I need a change. And I'm afraid if I don't change I will end up in an early grave. And worse I may end up not being able to drink beer anymore. They can't take away my beer.

I will post all my stats and goals this Sunday so if you are interested(and I hope you are) check in because I can no longer look like this dude:

Cheers!

Man, good on you for trying to change. I know it's not easy. Here are a couple resources I've used to get healthier:
marksdailyapple.com - "primal" diet guy, lotta great information about diet, exercise, and lifestyle. He dispels a lot of myths and has an outlook that makes a lot of sense.

fourhourworkweek.com - Tim Ferriss's blog; a bit broader than Mark's but he's got some very, very interesting and effective tips and hacks for maximizing your efforts. If you want a full book to read, I cannot recommend The Four Hour Body strongly enough.

I didn't have as much work to do as you might but I've experienced tremendous results from a synthesis of the two plans listed above. Good luck, and let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

I would wish you luck but I don't think you need it--you seem determined! :)

I can definitely relate, I've been saying "enough is enough" about getting out of shape for a long time. I think announcing your goal to the public is a great idea, just knowing that others are aware of your goal and watching the site for updates on your progress is a powerful motivator. Good luck with the endeavor. I'll be reading your updates and maybe it will inspire me to buckle down and get serious as well.

Way to go! You can do this! The wife was very smart to suggest you enlist the support of your readers. We're already behind you 100%!

I'm looking forward to your success!

Good luck. I'm dieting myself.

You certainly have my support. I get the same comments from the wife about my belly being due to beer. I say the same thing you do, it is due to poor food choices, aging and lack or exercise. (Although, I am on my feet all day at work.)

We are all in the same boat as we mature, we must make wise choices about our life style or we will not be able to enjoy our beers.

I'm with ya B.B.! (and enjoying a Rogue Good Chit as I write.)

In the words of (insert Adam Sandler movie here) "You can do it!"

I have had really good luck with keeping it simple. Try and stay away from the fad diet 'plans', lifestyle change is what is needed for long term results. I've been using myfitnesspal.com and a fitbit for about 4 months now and dropped 20 and that includes drinking plenty of beer (exercise = more beer). I have found that tracking my intake/exercise and having the data in front of me every day keeps me on track.

Good luck, give it time and you will meet your goal.

I'm just checking this blog for the first time in a long time and saw this post. You and I met a while back when I was trying to put together a group to buy a certain local beer company. I really commend you on putting yourself out there and setting this goal for yourself. I've been on a similar journey for a while now, so can totally identify.

I think the marksdailyapple.com site is a really good one for nutrition. I also think you should try crossfit (www.crossfitnola.com). I have been doing it and have become completely obsessed. I know I've only met you once, but I think you're the kind of guy that would like it. If you combine a good fitness regimen with nutrition, you will get there much faster than you think. You can do it with beer, too!

Good luck, man. I'd be happy to talk to you about crossfit if you want more info.
